I”s has a very special place in my heart for it is the first manga I ever completed reading. It was the manga I read when I was lovesick. Most of the things happening in its story, I can relate to. I was a kid back then. I read it when I was still new to manga, probably about 7 years ago? I wasn’t really an otaku back then, just a novice discovering the whole anime world. I was surprised and fascinated that a manga’s still pictures can make me feel the same emotion that anime brings. I”s is about a teenage boy’s love and puberty. Growing up and shit that makes you remember yourself when you were young. (If you’re old. lol)

“Shy Ichitaka has a crush on his high school classmate Iori, but ever since she posed for semi-provocative swimsuit photos in a magazine, she’s had a lot of sleazy guys hitting on her. Ichitaka’s afraid to make his feelings known for fear Iori will think he’s just another creep.” [via MangaHere]

It’s hard when I already ranted myself on the intro. But that aside, I”s is your typical romance/ecchi manga. Saying typical won’t give this manga justice though since it was the first of its kind (in my experience in anime). There are many similar titles like Love Hina or Ichigo 100%, but what differs I”s is its tender focus on the main character. The seamless balance between romance, drama and comedy is excellent. And boy, this manga will make you laugh. It’s good cause it will excite you while putting on the comedy. A very nice blend.

Ichitaka’s road to fulfilling his love is great. It’s exciting and it’ll make you scared for him at times. Various emotions will be felt. From the joy and glory of success to depressing defeat. The ending is… Well my reaction was, I didn’t want it to end, faahhk! T_T

Wait, I forgot. This is an ecchi manga! Katsura-sensei doesn’t fail to serve us every chapter with obvious upskirts or just awkward angles that reveal us with something. Boobies. Uncensored. Nuff said.

The character art is top notch. It is beautiful. Iori is freakin’ gorgeous. Much more her body! Extreme detail has been spent. If you know what pointillism is, it’s been applied in this manga. After this manga, Katsura also made Zetman. Check out the art on that manga, and compare! Nothing more can be said as the art is good!

If you like ecchi/romance/comedy stories, then definitely check out I”s. You won’t regret it.

I liked this manga a lot. I’m just not the biggest fan of the ending though.
