Yosuga no Sora

Yosuga no Sora brings about a sense of uneasiness. Even though you are just the audience the feelings from the anime are shared directly to you.

Haruka Kasugano and his twin sister Sora have lost both their parents in an accident, and with them all their support. They decide to move out of the city to the rural town where they once spent summers with their late grandfather. At first everything seems familiar and peaceful, but changes come as Haruka starts to remember things from his youth.

This is succeeded with introductions of the important side characters and the setting itself as the pair tour the area they will live in for the rest of the series. Their parents are dead and having only each other to rely on , the twins decide to sell their apartment in the big city and live at their old place. It becomes apparent that Haru is a handsome guy as every girl says he is, so the question on everyone’s minds at this point is: Who’s he gonna end up with? Although I know you think you already know the answer to that, you could be wrong.

It follows a similar format as well: you see a girl, get to know her, fall in love, fix the problem, then have intercourse. Great! I’m not saying that the formula sucks. On the contrary, I became quite engrossed in the story, in “each” story actually. If the developers are gonna proceed with 12 episodes and a bevy of girls for Haru to choose which one to, ahem, get it on with as the storyline progresses and in so doing only focusing on that one girl, the plot wouldn’t make you feel content. Naturally, you’d ask What if questions. In reality, the developers are giving you the satisfaction of knowing how each girl’s route would end up if Haru was to get it on with each of them.
The beauty of the system is that each section doesn’t cloud over each other and in fact complements them. How do they do this? Not only does the featured route for the day talk about the background of the current girl, it also determines what her role could be in the next route. You also get to have a closer look at the overarching backstory, which gives you a solid understanding of the events in the later episodes.
This is the first time where I watched a 12-episode anime and was satisfied enough to not look for anything more out of the series.Yosuga no Sora is, no doubt, one serious anime series but the developers didn’t stop with mere contentment. The anime brought more entertainment to the table by releasing short OVAs per episode that led up to the last one to create one whole OVA.
There are two ending themes; one I presume to be an insert song before the mini OVA section. The first ending theme depicts the twins’ family up until they lost their parents. The second ending theme plays a Rom-Com styled song to balance out the serious tone of the bulk of the series. It satisfies your thirst for the opposite of what you just watched; Tears to Smiles, you know, that sort of thing.
By the way, it’s borderline-Hentai so I suggest you watch it by yourself and to use headphones instead of loudspeakers..
vlcsnap-2014-08-04-01h40m41s0Overall, Yosuga no Sora is very dramatic, emotional, and heart-warming. It’s exciting in a way like when you’re hiding your bestfriend’s secret only to see somebody else exposing that secret. The anime’s design is well thought-out but what caught me off-guard was the class president who had feelings for Haru but was not able to get her own section. We could say that that was a section in itself, which resulted in a bad end. That doesn’t really matter to me because I’m pro SORA-AKIRA.

I loved the manga of this series and although it was a long time ago I still remember how it ended. I have only recently started watching this then stopped for a while ’cause of responsibilities. Now I have the free time to watch it again.

*thumbs up for great post on a good series.
